Introduction
Steel reconciliation is an important activity in construction work. It
means checking and comparing the steel received at site with the steel actually
used in the work.
The theoretical steel quantity as per drawings or BBS is compared with the
actual steel issued diameter-wise to verify consumption and ensure accurate
billing & control the wastage of steel. I hope this is help for billing
engineer, site engineer, Quantity surveyor.
What is the Steel reconciliation ?
Steel Reconciliation is the process of checking and comparing the
theoretical steel quantity with the actual steel used at the construction site.
We compare
Theoretical quantity
→ Steel required as per drawings / BBS (Bar Bending Schedule)
Actual quantity → Steel issued from the store and used at site
Both quantities are compared diameter wise to find wastage, shortage, or excess
consumption. This is help to us control the wastage of steel.

Step for Steel Reconciliation
Collect the following document.
Theoretical quantity as design / BBS in your R.A Bill quantity.
Joint measurement quantity ( JMR )
Extra steel work quantity
work in progress quantity
If any making of steel quantity available at site.
Any other steel miscellaneous work quantity as client demand.
Actual received quantity from client / store inventory.
Check that all
quantities are measured in the same unit (such as kg, ton, or meter)
Basic rules of steel reconciliation
Use the same unit for all steel (kg or ton).
Take steel quantity as per
drawing or BBS.
Add permissible wastage + - 2%
Check actual steel issued from store.
Compare theoretical steel with actual steel.
Find difference (extra use or wastage).
